About Poi
Poi is a visual performance art that includes a weight suspended from a length of flexible material held in the hand and swung in circular patterns.
Staff is the juggling of a stick either to form various patterns and accompany the dance performance.
These acts can be performed with fire, LED glow or by itself. Poi can mean the physical object, the choreography or the accompanying music
About the artist
Sagar
For Sagar life is music. Music of any form that helps in expressing the various emotions of life is what inspires Sagar. Grown on listening to Rock & Roll that transcended into various genres such as Heavy Metal and Psychedelic. He finds solace in almost any form of music that gets enticing the human brain. His fascination for Poi has also been a culmination of transcendental music along with the discipline of Yoga that has been practiced archaically. He may not be the supreme authority in the art of Poi that has originated amongst the Maori Tribe of New Zealand, but the art itself is so very evolving that the contemporary poi is under constant improvisation mode by the input of various poi spinners worldwide. Sagar finds himself lucky to be a part of this contribution and sees a meaning in this motion.
Sagar has been spinning poi for the last 1 year. Having noticed that there are not many formal communities for such an enthralling performance art in India; He has recently started POITRIX where by all spinners can come together, share and contribute to this phenomenal art.
